I live in the South. If you have ever been to Charleston, SC, you will see wrought iron gates and columns adorned with pineapples. This is a traditional southern welcome dating back to colonial days. Pineapples were expensive and were put out for company as a symbol of affluence, only the wealthy could afford such an exotic import. The original title, “Welcome,” was changed since it was a misnomer that didn’t really mean welcome. This painting is from the beaded curtain series, see the link below for more.
